Shanghai's Expo 2010, a gargantuan display, may exceed Beijing's Olympics.  Two works of architecture stand out for the writer's second visit. 

 

The Shanghai World's Fair, an immense spectacle, spans the Huangpu River and packs in the crowds. Undergirded by a serious plan to reclaim the waterfront, the fair's "bread and circuses" is packing them in.  Where does architecture fit within the mix?
