Marlon Blackwell's St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church in Springdale, Arkansas has won the World’s Best Civic and Community Building award at this year's World Architecture Festival in Barcelona. With its sidewalk-facing exhibition space located not too far from Occupy Wall Street, New York’s Storefront for Art and Architecture has announced a competition to design new ways of taking over public space during street demonstrations. The brief lists first prize as nothing less than “the possibility of a new world order,” but submissions will also be exhibited in a pop up installation at Storefront.Read the brief after the jump.
The second New York City edition of the Architecture & Design Film Festival is happening this week at Tribeca Cinemas. The lineup includes both feature and short films that range from the Zaha Hadid portrait “Lioness Among Lions” to a piece on biophilic design and what promises to be a more nuanced look at the City of Detroit than we’re used to seeing in photos of its urban ruins.
