While I was in Mexico City last week I paid a visit to the new Soumaya Museum building by LAR/Fernando Romero architects. The 172,000-square foot museum will be the centerpiece for the 7-million-square-foot Plaza Carso, a new mixed use development that will also include the Jumex Museum by David Chipperfield. Here are a few snapshots of the Soumaya that I took during my tour with Romero. The construction team was in the process of applying the  hexagonal aluminum cladding. What was quite surreal was that a couple guests were still lingering from the party that had been held the night before in the unfinished space. Two bronze sculptures were hunkering down under plastic wrap in the midst of the job site. You might recognize one of them as Auguste Rodin's The Thinker. The museum is scheduled for completion in the spring.
