On the one-year anniversary of the demonstrations for racial justice that erupted across the US, the nation’s largest architecture firms report how they're fostering diversity and inclusion.

The $260 million addition to the Hudson River Park, designed by Heatherwick Studio, MNLA, and Arup, opened May 21.

The $17.8 million renovation, led by Walter Hood and Mark Cavagnero, will open to the public next month.

The initiative—launched last November by the mayor’s office, along with the city’s chief design officer, Christopher Hawthorne—drew nearly 400 responses worldwide.
