When the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio shut down in 2001 after 120 years of operation, it left behind a 22-acre, asphalt-covered site in a crime-ridden part of town. 

A single-story, 30,000-square-foot headquarters for the Livestrong Foundation, with office space, meeting rooms, a courtyard, a gym, and a resource center for cancer patients. Located in East Austin, the facility is an adaptive reuse of a concrete tilt-up paper warehouse built in the 1950s.

Silence and humility figure prominently in the Quaker way of life.

The notion of a camp compound appealed to the project’s client, an active family wanting to be outdoors as much as possible at their vacation home near the north shore of Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
