Barcelona, Spain
Completion Date: 2009
Owner: MUNICH
Program: An 800-square-foot basement space for a sneaker and fashion footwear company, housing a press office and a showroom that doubles as a VIP meeting room.
Design concept and solution: The BailoRull team wanted the office and the showroom to have separate identities and yet be flexible enough to work in tandem. In step with Munich's innovative image, they sought to design a playful, imaginative home base for the brand. Visitors enter through a bright yellow pavilion on the roof, then descend a spiral staircase whose polyurethane-coated metal stairs appear to float within white tubular walls. Visitors arrive in the showroom, a lightbulb-shaped room contained within the larger office. The showroom can open out into the office via large hinged metal doors. The smaller room's walls double as lamps—yellow on the outside and acrylic panel on the inside—and also accommodate shoe displays. Inside the showroom, a mirrored stainless-steel floor and ceiling add to the theme of weightlessness.
