Crews led by Clark Construction Group began construction of the roof in June 2009.

Assembly of the roof frame and placement of its glass panels are aided by scaffolding that gives workers access to all portions of the roof system.

When completed, the signature roof will add a new look to the traditional skyline of Washington, D.C.

The project’s five-story atriums are filled with a complex 15,000-ft scaffold system that enables easier roof access.

Scaffolding is tiered across the entire project to align with curves of the roof system.

Although some portions are welded, bolted connections were used as much as possible to cut down on welding in the field.

The “body” of the dove shape meets with the “wings” near the south atrium.
