The AIA has launched an improved Documents-on-Demand service, which provides online access to the institute’s 16 most popular forms and agreements. The service, which is available to AIA members and non-members, allows both PC and Mac users to access and complete these documents electronically. Improvements are intended to “save users time and money,” explains Young C. Chang, director of Web-based products.
The revamped version offers greater ease of use. Previously, the online documents had to be printed out and completed with a pen or typewriter. Now, the work can be done digitally. Using Adobe Reader software, users can enter information into the data fields on the form. When the document is completed and purchased, users are given a link to it in PDF format, which they can download to their computer. Once it’s purchased, the document will be “locked” and cannot be modified, according to the AIA.
Access to the Documents-on-Demand site is free. The price per document varies from $4.95 to $19.95. To encourage people to use the revamped service, the institute is offering a free download between today and this Friday, October 23. To receive it, users are asked to call 1-877-AIA-DOCS. A promotion code will then be provided by e-mail.
The online, a-la-carte service is well suited for people who don’t need, or can’t afford, the AIA Contract Documents software, which contains more than 100 AIA documents. The software licenses vary in price. For AIA members, an unlimited license for “one seat” is $639; for 40 seats, $14,699. While the software is not compatible with Macs, the online Documents-on-Demand service is available to Mac users.
