BusinessWeek and RECORD announce the winners of the second biannual “Good Design is Good Business” China Awards Program, which honors building and planning projects that are reshaping modern China. A jury of editors has selected 13 projects, as well as this year’s “Best Client,” the innovative real-estate developer China Vanke Co., from more than 100 entries from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, based on their use of design to achieve strategic business and civic objectives. The winners will be recognized May 23rd at a ceremony in Shanghai.

The full list of winning projects and the architects, planners and clients follows below, or click here for complete coverage, including photos and descriptions of each project. Also look for coverage in the May issue of BusinessWeek China and the spring issue of Architectural Record China.

“This year’s winning projects reflect the growing sophistication of architecture and construction in China,” says Robert Ivy, FAIA, vice president and editorial director for McGraw-Hill Construction and RECORD’s editor-in-chief, “and this year’s business winners demonstrate that good design is changing the face of China in complex larger projects and individual buildings.”

“The degree to which design projects make sense from both a functional and aesthetic perspective dictates their success,” adds David Rocks, international senior editor of BusinessWeek. “These architects and clients have developed innovative venues with measurable results, spaces that yield benefits beyond being useful, but that positively affect the businesses, organizations and visitors on a daily basis.”

During the full-day awards ceremony on May 23, winners will present their projects and engage in panel discussions, moderated by BusinessWeek and Architectural Record editors. For more information, or to RSVP, click here.
