October 2018 Product Briefs: Surfacing Products

Durat 750 and 758
Solid-surface manufacturer Durat has updated its terrazzo-inspired offerings by producing them in shades of Pantone’s Ultra Violet, the 2018 Color of the Year. Durat 750 and 758 are actually made from postindustrial polyester-based plastic, which is granulated and then cast in 10' x 3' sheets to create the ½"-thick surfacing.

Retrostone
The Spanish manufacturer Neolith’s take on classic poured-in-place terrazzo is actually a thin, easy-to-install slab of crushed quartz, feldspar, and minerals. Part of the company’s Fusion collection, Retrostone has a digitally printed pattern and is available in panels measuring 126" x 59" and 126" x 63", with thicknesses of ½" and 0.2" for walls and countertops.

Ocean
Colorfully flecked Ocean is among the many composite surfaces that UK manufacturer Smile Plastics makes from postindustrial and post-consumer plastic, including yogurt containers, plant pots, and bottles. The result is available in sustainable and waterproof 7' x 3' slabs for worktops and cladding.

Terazio
Emser Tile renders terrazzo’s textures onto this digitally printed collection of porcelain tiles, in large- and small-scale patterns (Palladio, Nero, Gesso, and Bianco). Available with a matte or gloss finish, Terazio comes in tiles measuring 12" x 24" and 24" square.

Terrazzo is enjoying new popularity and inspiring sustainable high-tech alternatives.
