ALPHA1 Constant Pressure Pump
Grundfos’s new pump amps up hydronic heating and hot-water-recirculation flow rates, while requiring extremely low energy consumption compared with earlier single and three-speed models. Made and assembled in California, the Alpha1 boasts the highest torque possible, a powerful start, three constant pressure modes operated by a single push-button control, and an easy-toread LED display showing the gallons-per-minute flow and watt-hours consumption.

VRP HVAC System
Exceptional energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality are hallmarks of Friedrich’s new Variable Refrigerant Packaged (VRP) HVAC system. The system has a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio of up to 20 and heating seasonal performance factor as high as 13. Meanwhile, the company’s FreshAire system brings in as many as 70 CFMs of conditioned, MERV 8–filtered outside air. Combined with the VRP units’ compact, all-in-one design, the high performance makes it suitable for hospitality and multifamily applications.

AkitaBox
Drone-assisted building inspections are a new additional source of data that building-management software company AkitaBox is offering clients. Along with faster and safer information gathering on the condition of building envelopes, the company is testing thermal imaging (produced by drones from developer PrecisionHawk) as a way to detect HVAC issues such as leaks. The two companies have teamed up to start incorporating such data into AkitaBox’s reports.

LG MultiSite Control Suite
LG’s suite of air-conditioning products is a one-stop solution for managing energy efficiency across sites. The company’s MultiSite Remote Controller provides a touch screen to centralize monitoring of indoor environments; it uses sensors to determine such factors as occupancy and humidity for efficiency readings. Meanwhile, a Communications Manager integrates MultiSite Control with a building’s existing system. The company’s VM3 building-management solution enables architects to tailor the programming of the entire suite of products to specific needs.
