August 2017 Product Briefs: Acoustics
The latest acoustic products adopt unexpected profiles—from artwork to pendants.

HeartFelt Panels
These slender acoustic panels come in 8' lengths of felt, heat-molded to slide easily onto a mounting system that attaches to ceilings and walls. Designed by architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen, the panels allow for flexible spacing to accommodate lighting, HVAC, and fire-safety fittings. Installed, the 19⁄16" x 23⁄16" modules have an NRC rating of 0.50, 0.60 or 0.70, depending on their spacing.

Echo
One of the latest offerings from 3form company LightArt, Echo is both an acoustical baffle and an LED pendant fixture. Specified in a grid pattern, the fixture’s NRC value can range from 0.85 up to 1, depending on how its 14" felt baffles are arranged. Like all of LightArt’s products, it’s made in Seattle. Available in 35" and 47" diameters.

Diade
Three solutions in one—Diade is a 3000K LED luminaire, a space divider, and a sound diffuser. Architect and designer Monica Armani designed the linear aluminum lamp body sandwiched between panels of molded PET to blend in at the office. Diffusers can be adjusted to open out like horizontal wings or raised to the vertical. Panels come sized 71" x 51" (when open). There is also a smaller panel available.

Zintra on Zintra Concertina Screen
Designers can specify a layer of MDC’s noise-reducing Zintra fabric in cutout patterns to overlay the company’s sound-absorbing Concertina dividers for an attractive sound-control device that is also a privacy screen. Zintra On Zintra Concertina comes already assembled, with an NRC rating of 0.26 to 0.95, depending on the design. This solution features 4' x 9' ½-inch screen panels. Custom colors are available.

Bemolle Drapes
Bemolle is Snowsound’s patented noise-reducing textile in the form of a wall-mounted soft sculpture. Those natural-looking folds were precisely designed by the Italian firm Atelier Mendini to control sound. Made of 100% polyester, the 94" x 41" drapes can absorb 94% of human speech in cultural spaces such as theaters and lecture halls. It’s also fire-resistant and machine washable.
