Program: A 3,000-square-foot art gallery, guest residence, and reception space attached to a private residence.
Design concept and solution: Located in a Chicago highrise that overlooks the skyline and Lake Michigan, this contemporary art gallery and guest residence is designed to display works of art with spaces of varying scale. The service core of the residence, which houses the kitchen, bathroom, and convertible bedroom, is a solid plaster volume. The kitchen is composed of polished red lacquered cabinetry, the bathroom is contained in translucent fiberglass, and Sapele wood lines the convertible bedroom.
