Andrea Leers is an internationally recognized leader in urban, campus and civic design, as well as a pioneer in mass timber design for academic settings. Since she and Jane Weinzapfel co-founded their Boston-based practice in 1982, Leers Weinzapfel Associates’ work has been honored with over 200 major regional, national, and international awards, including the 2007 AIA National Firm Award. Her notable projects include The John W. Olver Design Building at UMass Amherst, Adohi Hall at the University of Arkansas, the Harvard Science Center Expansion, and several state and federal courthouses. She is the former Director of the Master in Urban Design Program and Professor in Practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and has taught at Yale, University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology. She was Chaire des Amériques at the University of Paris, Sorbonne, Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome, and NEA Japan-US Friendship Commission Fellow in Tokyo.
