Location: Ampney Saint Mary, England
Project size: 5,300 square feet
Site size: 30,500 square feet
Program: A single-family house in a rural area affords ample space for work and leisure.
Solution: The spacious Cotswolds house comprises two adjacent volumes: a modern interpretation of a traditional farm structure, with high timber ceilings and peaked rooflines, and a smaller, monolithic dry stone building. A central open-air courtyard is tucked between the two. An annexed artist’s studio, which echoes the timber design of the larger main structure, completes the residential complex.
Construction and materials: The architects utilized local dry stone, as well as charred and natural larch wood.
