Project size: 4,000 square feet
Program: The existing brick townhouse required a full renovation. The lower level and ground floors were reconfigured to provide spacious, open-plan accommodations for the living, kitchen, dining and library areas. A garden was incorporated to be an extension of the ground floor. The upper floors were rearranged to include five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a cloakroom, storage space, a study, and a playroom.
Location: Dartmouth Park, London
Solution: Being situated in the middle of a Victorian terrace, the house’s exterior treats the historic setting as a found object, preserving the London stock.
Construction and materials: The envelope is Victorian brickwork. The interior has timber-frame construction, white plaster, oak kitchen units, exposed steelwork, and reclaimed oil pine floorboards. Windows are matt black aluminum. New construction was done with block work cavity walls, faced with London stock brick and white paint.
