Project size: 2,800 square feet
Program: The house was designed as a secondary residence for two clients who oscillate between the cities of Montreal and Magog. They desired an open living area so that they could prepare meals in direct relation to nature and the lake.
Location: Magog, on the shores of Lake Memphremagog, in southeastern Quebec province.
Solution: Inspired by the vastness of its natural surroundings, the house was built with openness in mind, and features minimal physical boundaries. Warm and simple materials were chosen to create the desired family atmosphere.
Construction and materials: The exterior’s local hemlock wood is left natural, and will gain a gray patina over time, slowly blending in with the natural environment. Local materials such as the reclaimed barn boards used for built-in furniture and the central staircase provide a direct link to the region’s rural buildings. The recycled polished stone floor extends over the entire ground level, acting as thermal mass.
