There are several sartorial “musts” crucial to an architect’s wardrobe. Among them, round Corbu-inspired frames, the ubiquitous black turtleneck, and maybe a bit of Rei Kawakubo thrown in. But at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, simple canvas tote bags were the accessory of choice.

RECORD’s resident street style photographer documented nearly 100 biennale-goers armed with tote bags—given out like candy at various national pavilions, or just brought from home. We bagged the best of them, proving it’s hip to be square.
