French conceptual artist Daniel Buren has created a temporary, site-specific work for the Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton building, in the Bois de Boulogne park in western Paris. For "Observatory of Light," Buren installed 3,600 pieces of glass in a 13-color checkerboard pattern on the building’s translucent, curved glass sails.
Bernard Arnault, president of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and CEO of LVMH, calls Buren’s project “pertinent and enchanting, the result of a real dialogue with Frank Gehry and his building.”
“[Buren’s] work responds magnificently to the architecture, in line with his approach, going back to the 1970s, that sees a coming together of colors, transparency, and light,” says Arnault.
The piece opens May 11, 2016.
